On Opening Day, the Giants 40-man was:

✽ starters (5): Jordan Hicks, Robbie Ray(L), Landen Roupp, Justin Verlander, Logan Webb
✽ swingmen (1): Hayden Birdsong
✽ bullpen (7): Spencer Bivens, Camilo Doval, Erik Miller(L), Randy Rodriguez, Tyler Rogers, Lou Trevino, Ryan Walker
✽ catchers (2): Patrick Bailey, Sam Huff
✽ infielders (7): Willy Adames, Matt Chapman, Tyler Fitzgerald, Wilmer Flores, Christian Koss, Casey Schmitt, Monty Wade
✽ outfielders (4): Jung Hoo Lee, Luis Matos, Heliot Ramos, Mike Yastrzemski
and in the minors or hurt:
• pitchers (8): Tristan Beck, Mason Black, Kyle Harrison(L), Sean Hjelle, Trevor McDonald, Carson Ragsdale, Carson Seymour, Keaton Winn
• players (5):  Osleivis Basabe, Marco Luciano, Grant McCray, Wade Meckler, Brett Wisely
• 15 day injured list (1): Jerar Encarnacion
• 60 day injured list: Tom Murphy

Very little has happened in the first 50 games, as the Giants ran up a 29-21 record:

Wisely and Villar were called up as replacements for injured Fitzgerald and Schmitt
Encarnacion moved to 60-day list to make a 40-man spot for Villar
Fitzgerald and Schmitt are back, Wisely demoted, and Villar released for 2nd time.
Trevino has been released, to activate Harrison
Birdsong and Hicks have had their jobs swapped

The rotation changed for the first time this week:

Roupp946.02-35-4

Verlander1052.00-34-6
Birdsong15.01-01-0

Birdsong’s data does not include a W in 23.1 innings during 11 relief appearances.  Hicks’ two relief appearances are also omitted.  13 different pitchers have started games for the dodgers.

The stability extends to the core lineup, not just the 26-man.  Here are AB’s taken by the 9 regular players:
Adames, 196   Lee, 192   Ramos, 186   Chapman, 175   Flores, 175   Yastrzemski, 154   Wade, 127   Bailey, 126   Fitzgerald, 98
and here is the fall-off to every other guy who has batted:
Matos, 65   Koss, 60   Huff, 45   Schmitt, 28   Villar, 20   Wisely, 10

You have to wonder how long will things be so static?  We do know Jerar Encarnacion is eligible to come off the IL on May 23rd, but his rehab was paused due to soreness.  He will take a few AB in Arizona tonight (21st) and then restart his rehab.  Melvin has said his earliest return date is now May 30th, in Miami, the final stop of a 3 city road trip.
