Snakes

Snakes

Giants with two grand slams in a calendar month (hat tip to Sarah Langs):
Harrison Bader May 2026; Casey Schmitt June 2025; Buster Posey June 2015; Michael Tucker April 2005; Jeff Kent May 1997; Chris Speier May 1987; Willie McCovey Sep 1967; Alvin Dark May 1951; Sid Gordon June 1948; Travis Jackson Sep 1924; Duke Farrell July 1894.
Harrison Bader’s pair came in a span of a single week, with two solos mixed in there, too, so let’s give him a Picture of the Post.  After all, Bader hasn’t had one since he dented the food truck in the desert.

The Giants have an immediate chance to get even with the Snakes for that sweep in the desert, just three games ago:
• Monday, 2:05, RHP Merrill Kelly (4-3, 5.71) vs. Landen Roupp (5-4, 3.27)
• Tuesday, 6:45, LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (4-1, 2.24) vs. TBD
• Wednesday, 12:45, RHP Michael Soroka (6-2, 3.27) vs. TBD
Ordinary counting predicts the Giants pitchers to be Tyler Mahle and Trevor McDonald, but something must be in the works.  Logan Webb has made his rehab start, and thus Roster Resource thinks it will be Mahle and then Webb.  But if so, why list Tuesday as a TBD?  And Robbie Ray walked a career high 7 today, in less than 5 innings, so is he an IL candidate?  That would aavoid demoting Trevor McDonald!  Stay tuned.  By the way, Kelly is the only one of the scheduled Snake pitchers the Giants saw last week.

The Snakes are a little changed since last week.  Lourdes Gurriel is hurt, so Tommy Troy is up.  Roster Resource thinks the primary DH is now Fernandez, not Del Castillo.  The latter had to shift back to catching after James McCann got hurt, which also resulted in our old friend Aramis Garcia being activated as a 3rd C.  The RBI counts below are updated:
   🐍 1B Ildemaro Vargas (32, 7 HR), 2B Ketel Marte (27, 8 HR), SS Geraldo Perdomo (18), 3B Nolan Arenado (27, 7 HR)
🌵 RF Corbin Carroll (28, 7 HR), CF Ryan Waldschmidt (7), LF Tommy Troy (0)
   🏜 C Gabriel Moreno (14), DH Jose Fernandez (14)
🐍 bench: C Adrian Del Castillo, C Aramis Garcia, IF/OF Tim Tawa, OF Jorge Barrosa
   🌵 rotation: Soroka, Zac Gallen(3-4, 4.80), Ryne Nelson (2-3, 4.65), Kelly, Rodriguez
🏜 closer Paul Sewald, set ups Jonathan Loaisiga and Taylor Clarke
One thing we learned last week is some concern about Waldschmidt!  But do not forget about Corbin Carroll, who went 4-4 in Sunday’s series victory over the Rockies.  Two of those hits were triples, his 7th and 8th of the year, bringing Carroll to within 1 of the AZ franchise career record, which is 52.  You can just bet he’d like to get that hit against a division rival who have named part of their park Triples Alley.  Carroll is in his 5th season, still just 25 years old, with 89 homers and 129 steals to his credit.  Fast dude.  Then, Arenado, Marte, …

This is a good team, with a balanced attack.  Play better this time, Gigantes!
