The Giants face the Cubs, again, after going 2-1 in the Friendly Confines. In other words, the team could actually win a season series against somebody this weekend. Here is when to watch:
• Friday, 7:15, TBD vs. Landen Roupp (5-6, 4.00), on NBC (KNTV)
• Saturday, 7:05, RHP Ben Brown (2-2, 1.74) vs. Trevor McDonald (2-3, 4.15)
• Sunday, 12:10, RHP Colin Rea (5-4, 5.19) vs. Logan Webb (3-4, 3.88), on ABC, Hello Kitty Day
Cubs arrived in SF after a Thursday afternoon game in Colorado, where they went 1-2.
Here is Counsell’s 35-34 team,
✽ 1B Michael Busch (38), 2B Nico Hoerner (33), SS Dansby Swanson (28), 3B Alex Bregman (22)
✽ RF Seiya Suzuki (26, 10 HR), CF Pete Crow-Armstrong (32, 11 HR), LF Ian Happ (38, 15 HR)
✽ C Carson Kelly (19), DH Moises Ballesteros (23)
✽ bench: C Miguel Amaya, IF/OF Pedro Ramirez, OF/IF Matt Shaw, OF Michael Conforto
✽ rotation: Shota Imanaga (4-6, 4.44), Edward Cabrera (4-3, 4.86), Brown, Assad, Rea
✽ closer Daniel Palencia, set ups Jacob Webb and Caleb Thielbar
The main difference to last week is that we saw Jameson Taillon come out of the game with a hamstring pull, which has put him onto the IL. So that may give the Giants a chance to avenge themselves on Javier Assad, who replaced Taillon and then mowed down about 59 straight Giants hitters. Matt Shaw is on the bench instead of Kevin Alcantra.
You don’t come back from a 9-1 deficit with six outs to go without a bunch of different hitters contributing. So, while Bryce Eldridge got the dramatic walk-off grand slam, and of course nails the Picture of the Post, it seems appropriate that the photo show many of his teammates. And the indefatigable kodachrome found a long video (25 minutes) of the entire set of events in the bottom of the 8th and 9th innings. Enjoy:
I’m away this weekend for a family event. A lot of us are missing right now, as OOM’s computer is onto the IL, GFS86 is overseas, and so forth. Please try your best to keep kodachrome company, as she does a lot for you: team news items, finding videos like the one above, and bringing the spice.
