Our beloved Wade started the season with the White Sox AAA affiliate, before being released on June 1. He quickly picked up a minor league deal with Houston, and now has played in 26 games for the Astros, and managed to hit 0.216 with 15 RBI. Okert joined the Astros last year, and is putting up a WHIP 0f 0.87 this year in 57 appearances – aged 34, and not to be taken lightly. Kai-Wei Teng pitched 25 times for this team, to a 5-6 record, but was demoted to AAA about ten days ago. Carlos Correa, the most famous #NeverGiant, is out for the season with an torn ankle tendon.
At the deadline, the ‘Stros traded for OF Daulton Varsho (26 RBI in Canada), thinking they needed another bat, sending starter Spencer Arrighetti to the Jays in return. That’s pretty quiet, next to the Giants big shakeup.
Today’s Picture of the Post is Jonah Cox. No one on the team earned these honors during the Tigers’ series, and anyway, why not have a 3rd kid in a row get the Picture? Cox was drafted in the 6th round back in 2023 by the Athletics. Zaidi ripped the A’s off, trading them Ross Stripling before the 2024 season, picking up some $$$ and Cox. Cox went to San Jose to start 2024, promoted to Eugene halfway through the summer of that year. In 2025 he played at Eugene, and then started out at Richmond this year. A 0.400 average there (44 G, 160 AB, 35 RBI) got Cox a direct flight to San Francisco, on May 31st. The Giants do that once in a while, notably promoting the Panda direct from AA. Cox was accoladed at the time of his promotion as “best CF in the organization” and indeed covers a lot of ground. His very first appearance was as a PR at first, from which he scored on a Devers single – the dude can really run. Here is an odd factoid about Cox: he now has as many games at second base in the majors (2) as in college and the minors put together (1 each). He put up 4 steals for the Giants, before going out with an oblique strain on July 6th. 15 strikeouts, compared to 0 walks, admittedly a flaw. Cox went 7-26 in 24 games with SF, with a double, triple, and homer in those 7 hits.
Cox has now played in 9 R’Cats games since beginning a rehab stint on July 29th. He is 20 for 40 in his AAA debut, with 3 doubles, a triple, and a homer. Also, 6 steals in those 9 games. Cox wins the Picture honor, entirely in hopes of embarrassing the Giants into calling him back up.
