It doesn’t get any easier! The 23-36 Giants are in Milwaukee for the first of the two season series against the 35-21 Brewers, who are in first place with a 4½ game lead on the Cubbies. The series is 4 games,
• Monday, 4:40, Landen Roupp (5-5, 3.30) vs. LHP Shane Drohan (2-1, 2.63)
• Tuesday, 4:40, Trevor McDonald (2-2, 4.34) vs. LHP Kyle Harrison (6-1, 1.57)
• Wednesday, 4:40, Logan Webb (2-4, 4.82) vs. TBD
• Thursday, 11:10, Adrian Houser (2-5, 5.59) vs. TBD
Roster Resource thinks the last two games will be pitched by Coleman Crow (0-0, 3.14) and Brandon Sproat (1-4, 6.24). Crow is up from the minors to replace the injured Logan Henderson. The Giants manage to miss Jacob Misiorowski, who put up a 0.23 ERA in May.
Here are Pat Murphy’s crew:
🍺 1B Jake Bauers (33, 9 HR), 2B Brice Turang (31), SS Joey Ortiz (11), 3B David Hamilton (9)
🍻 RF Sal Frelick (18), CF Garrett Mitchell (28), LF Jackson Chourio (8)
🍺 C William Contreras (34), DH Christian Yellich (16)
🍻 bench: C Gary Sanchez, 1B Andrew Vaughn, IF Luis Rengifo, OF Blake Perkins
🍺 rotation: Misiorowski (), Drohan, Harrison, Crow, Sproat
🍻 co-closers Trevor Megill and Abner Uribe, set up Aaron Ashby
Well, at least we know the DH hasn’t got nothin’! Harrison is the only ex-Giant on this team, although Gary Sanchez was in the Giants camp a couple of years back.
Buster Posey was a pretty obvious presence around the team as they struggled in Colorado. And some changes have begun, finally. While Heliot Ramos is out injured (and it will be a while, he is still being held out of “baseball activities”), the team has put Casey Schmitt into left. This has allowed some more consistent playing time for Bryce Eldridge, who has responded with a big surge the last ten days or so. Harrison Bader is out with a heel injury, so the team decided they may as well give a roster spot to Jonah Cox from AA, as that kid was clearly going to get one just before Rule 5 time next fall. Cox is considered a great fielder, and was hitting 0.400 for the Flying Squirrels. Cox got into the game in Denver, in front of family and friends, so that’s pretty cool. Jung Hoo Lee came back from his injury hot, and Will Brennan went back to AAA. As far as pitching, all three of Robbie Ray, Adrian Houser, and Tyler Mahle have been struggling, so Mahle was put on the IL in order to keep Trevor McDonald on the team, when Logan Webb returned from a knee owie. Webb’s start was better, for sure. In a long overdue move, Ryan Borucki was waived, to bring Tristan Beck back onto the team. Finally, we saw Joey Peguero hobble off the field after fielding a ball in the final game, and the word is that is once again his hamstring.
Finally, Picture of the Post. Summing the three games in Denver, we have
✽ Jung Hoo Lee, 11-15, 2 doubles, 0 homers, 0 whiffs, 0 walks, 4 runs, 2 RBI
✽ Bryce Eldridge, 6-11, 2 doubles, 1 homer, 1 strikeout, 2 walks, 6 runs, 2 RBI
Flip a coin! The PotP department almost did, and then thought how often does a guy hit 0.733 in his first series after a back spasm IL-ing? And Lee had a 5 hit game, while Eldridge could “only” muster four. Anyway, you have the sense that Eldridge has the award for the upcoming Milwaukee series in the bag, already.
