Marlins

Here is the schedule against Miami, who are 37-38, in fourth place, 10 games back of the Braves.
   🐟 Friday, 4:10, Landen Roupp (5-7, 4.24) vs. RHP Lake Bachar (0-0, 2.97)
   🐟 Saturday, 4:10, Trevor McDonald (2-4, 4.64) vs. RHP Max Meyer (7-0, 2.75)
   🐟 Sunday, 10:40, Logan Webb (4-4, 3.46) vs. RHP Ryan Gusto (0-2, 7.24)
after which the Giants fly home.  The Marlins have only announced Meyer as a starter, the other two are officially TBD.  Roster Resource predicts the other two names.  Bachar has started only 3 of his 23 games this season, so maybe the first one is a bullpen game?  The Giants have Monday off, then the Athletics, who will be followed by the home series against Braves.

Watch out for catcher Liam Hicks, who has 52 RBI and 13 HR.  The FIsh have two other players with more than 30 RBI, namely RF Owen Caissie (36) and SS Otto Lopez (32).  You might remember the latter’s name, as he was in the Giants’ camp back in 2024, when he was picked up for “cash considerations”.  The Giants sent him to Sacramento at the end of camp, and released him on April 1.  It might just be that the Giants’ talent evaluation ability is suspect?   Lopez is presently leading the majors in batting average, at 0.336, just ahead of Luis Arraez (0.326) and Jung Hoo Lee (0.325).  What if we had all three?

The Giants won two games in Atlanta, after rain suspended the first game, it was effectively a double header.  The perplexing Giants won twice, behind strong pitching from Robbie Ray and Carson Whisenhunt.  The latter was called up as 27th guy, catching a 7 AM flight out of Oklahoma City to Atlanta, arriving in time to catch a tiny bit of sleep.  He went 5 innings, giving up 2 runs, and got the W.  The Giants optioned him back to the River Cats after the game, but you’d have to believe he’ll be back soon.  You know he’ll want another Picture of the Post later this year!

The third game was rained out, and will be played on August 31st, ruining the Giants’ only off-day between August 17th and September 10th. For now, at least, we can say the Giants swept the best team in the NL. Go figure!

One doesn’t know what to say about the 2026 team.  Inconsistent play, even worse public relations.
