The 37-52 Giants return home, for the final homestand before the All Star Break. They face the 42-48 Blue Jay:
• Monday, 6:45, RHP Kevin Gausman (4-7, 4.19) vs. Landen Roupp (5-8, 4.55)
• Tuesday, 6:45, TBD vs. Trevor McDonald (3-6, 4.42)
• Wednesday, 12:45, RHP Dylan Cease (5-4, 2.79) vs. Logan Webb (5-6, 3.66)
Those are official as of Sunday afternoon. Roster Resource thinks RHP Spencer Miles (4-1, 2.83) who was a R5 pick by the Jays from the Giants last fall will pitch on Tuesday.
Our guys will then play four more against the Rockies:
• Thursday, 6:45, Sean Sullivan vs. Robbie Ray
• Friday, 7:15, Tanner Gordon vs. Tyler Mahle
• Saturday, 1:05, Kyle Freeland vs. Landen Roupp
• Sunday, 1:05, Michael Lorenzen vs. Trevor McDonald
None of those pitchers are announced, that’s just Roster Resource counting ahead in both rotations.
Starting players for the Blue Jays are
🔹 1B Vladimir Guerrero (35), 2B Ernie Clement (29), SS Andres Gimenez (35), 3B Kazuma Okamoto (54)
🔹 RF Nathan Lukes (17), CF Daulton Varsho (23), LF Yohendrick Piñango (20)
🔹 C Alejandro Kirk (7), DH Sean Keys (3)
Of course, you will remember that Tyler Rogers signed a 3/$37M deal with Toronto this past winter. Ty and the aforementioned Miles are the only Jays with ties to the Giants.
You will also remember the Jays were in the WS last year, so that organization is frustrated. At the moment, the Jays are 11½ games out of first. 3-7 over their last ten. As of a few days ago, Vlad Guerrero had not hit a homer at the Sky Dome, so that’s certainly part of it. They do at least have a shot at being in the playoffs, whereas being six games under 0.500 is only a pipe dream for the Giants.
The Picture of the Post goes to Luis Arraez. Somehow, he hadn’t gotten one yet, and of course it won’t be too long before he isn’t ours anymore. Recent rumors for trading partners include the Cubs, Guardians, and Rangers. He will help anyone. Leads the Giants with a BA of 0.326. Leads in triples with 7, 3 more than Lee. Fewest strike outs with just 15. 6 steals, behind only Schmitt’s 7. As we all know, Arraez worked hard in camp to turn himself into a great defender at second base. He will be a starter for the National League all-star team, he helped his country win the SBC this spring, and he’s been an absolutely terrific team mate. Seldom have photograph honors been more deserved.
