The 58-83 Giants depart Pittsburgh, having dropped the series there 1-2, to head for New York City, and the season finale against the 63-77 Mets. Three games on tap this weekend,
• Friday, 4:10, Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson (0-2, 4.63) vs. RHP Nolan McLean (10-8, 3.06)
• Saturday, 1:10, Anthony Molina (0-0, 5.40) vs. LHP Zac Thornton (3-4, 2.93)
• Sunday, 10:40, TBD vs. RHP Christian Scott (4-4. 3.80)
before our team flies home to face the Red Birds on Monday. Sunday’s game should be Webb’s turn, and it feels ominous he’s not a declared starter.
Giants faced the Mets back in the second week of the season, dropping that series 1-3 to the Amazin’s. A sure sign the SF season was not going to stick to any tracks, for the Mets themselves would end up firing manager Carlos Mendoza on June 26th, with the team at 33-47. So, they are 30-30 under interim skipper Andy Green. The only ex-Giant on the active roster is SP Sean Manaea, and the Giants won’t see him this time. However, we will have to watch some Soto shenanigans.
The Giants dropped the first game in Pittsburgh by a 13-12 score, not because of the final throwing error, but because of the pitching. Logan Webb giving up 9 runs in a single inning? But he wasn’t the only one….save Cesar Perdomo, making his MLB debut. Perdomo was an international signing out of Venezuela back in 2021, and makes it to The Show at age 24. He faced 15 batters, getting 12 outs. 3 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 1 run scored, so the team must have put up a double play during his appearance. The other four pitchers that day also got 12 outs, but gave up 16 hits, 3 walks, and 11 earned runs. Perdomo is stretch out as a starter, as he began all nine appearances after his July 7th promotion. He notched a 7-2 record with a 5.10 ERA as a River Cat. As the only person who could actually pitch on Tuesday, well done, and of course, you get a Picture of the Post! The image is when he was 22 and began the season in San Jose, earning a promotion to high-A midway through the season.
